Textile design and craft are part of my life practice. I use my spinning wheel to make yarn for weaving and knitting. Like all ancient crafts, they rely on mantra-like repetition of nuanced hand movements, and an intuitive connection to material. Textile crafts are my medium for creation through meditation.
I designed this scarf initially for myself, to help fend against the all-mighty Michigan Winter. They're 8 inches wide and 8 feet long, comfortably wrapping once, and also twice. I began to produce them, at first on commission, but now only as gifts. I'm proud that nearly all of my cold-country friends have their own custom scarf.
I asked my friend Ian to come over and model some of my knit work. Here he is an array of scarves, as well as my own personal sweater.
I designed the jumper as something comfortable to wear around the house. I chose a light breezy linen that has a bit of stretch. You put it on through the wide arm opening, allowing the entire garment to slip on and off in one movement.
